Achieving younger, healthier
looking skin and maintaining it!
Skincare
Skincare has always been a vital part of
practice. Many
patients come in thinking that they need surgery such as a facelift
or laser skin resurfacing to get rid of their wrinkles and brown
spots when in fact they just need to be on a good skincare program.
A good skincare program such as La Roche-Posay or Obagi can be very
effective in correcting and rejuvenating the skin when used on a
daily basis. These skincare products along with regular skin peels,
skin lightening creams and Retin-A can produce amazing results.
Skin Peels
Skin peels, also known as chemical peels, such as Phenol,
trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are chemical
solutions that are used to improve and smooth the texture of the
skin. Which type of peel is recommended and how it’s customized
depends on the patient’s specific needs. The effect of chemical
peels is dependent on the type, the concentration and the technique
used during its application. They are classified as superficial,
medium-depth and deep. Chemical peels in conjunction with lightening
agents have proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines, lighten
brown spots, even out pigmentation and give an overall smoother,
fresher look.
AHA peels such as glycolic, lactic or fruit acids are the mildest
(superficial) and most popular because they don’t require any
recovery time. AHA peels when applied weekly or for longer periods
of time can produce smoother, brighter-looking skin. AHA’s in lower
percentages are commonly found in rejuvenating skincare products.
TCA peels produce medium- depth peeling and sometimes may need to be
repeated to achieve the desired result. The strongest of all
chemical peels is Phenol producing a deep peel and is usually used
on patients with coarse skin. A Phenol peel requires the most
recovery time.
along with his
licensed aesthetician will help you determine which peel and
skincare program is right for you during your consultation. How soon
you want to see results will also determine how aggressive you’ll
need to proceed.
La Roche-Posay®
understands the
importance of good skincare. After careful research, he came across
BioMedic (now La Roche-Posay) and was truly impressed with their
entire product line as well as their in-office chemical peels. It’s
been now over 12 years since he incorporated La Roche-Posay® into
his practice and both his patients and staff couldn’t be happier.
La Roche-Posay is a medically supervised skincare program that
offers a combination of in-office lunch peels (Micropeels) as well
as a customized home care regimen. Our licensed aestheticians work
under the direct supervision of Dr. Leach and are trained routinely
by the educators at the La Roche-Posay School.
From the very beginning, La Roche-Posay has been an excellent
complement to
facial
procedures and surgery by offering pre and post conditioning of the
skin. Those patients that choose to start the program prior to
surgery maximize their overall surgical results. A facelift can get
rid of sagging skin and deep wrinkles but it can’t improve the
overall texture of the skin. This is where the Micropeel comes into
play.
This program is a safe and customized approach to correcting and
treating various skin conditions and for rejuvenating skin. Here are
the most common skin complaints we see and treat with the La Roche-Posay
skincare program:
• uneven skin tone
• sun damaged skin and brown spots
• acne/acne prone
• oily skin
• intolerate/sensitive skin
• rosacea
• dry/severely dry skin
• prematurely aged skin (fine lines, dullness, thinning
skin)
During your initial visit, the aesthetician will go over your past
skincare history and do a thorough skincare evaluation. Based on her
findings, she will then make the appropriate recommendations for
which type of in-office peel (20%-30% BioMedic Micropeel or 20% -
30% Micropeel Plus) and which daily home regimen you should follow.
In order to achieve optimum results with the La Roche-Posay program,
all patients should initially have a Micropeel in a series of six
every two weeks and use the skincare products daily in the am and
pm. Due to damaging effects of the sun on freshly peeled skin,
minimizing sun exposure and using a sunscreen daily is highly
recommended while on this program. During the maintenance phase,
patients are encouraged to come in every 2-3 months for a peel.
Rejuvenating and maintaining healthy, glowing skin is a lifetime
process!
Obagi® Systems
Another skincare line that
offers at his
practice is the Obagi System. There are three different systems:
Obagi Nu-Derm, Obagi C Rx and Obagi Professional C-Serum. Their
latest system is called Clenziderm M.D. and is strictly for the
treatment of acne and is especially great for young teenagers.
The Obagi products are extremely effective for the correction of:
• fine lines and wrinkles
• rough skin texture
• moderate to severe hyperpigmentation
• loss of elasticity and firmness
• loss of natural skin hydration
• sun and age spots
• adult acne
The Obagi Nu-Derm system uses a unique combination of ingredients
that increases cellular turnover, suppresses melanocyte production,
promotes the even distribution of melanin, increases collagen and
elastin formation and improves blood flow. The Obagi Condition and
Enhance is excellent for facelift patients preoperatively because it
enhances healing time and reduces complications.
The Obagi System also offers the Blue Peel. The Blue Peel allows
to control the depth of the peel and the number of coats
applied is determined based on the patient’s specific needs. Because
this particular peel uses TCA, the patients do experience some
moderate burning that last 2-3 minutes and a bluish tint to the skin
that usually washes off in 12 to 24 hours. The application process
itself takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on the number of
coats applied. You will experience significant peeling that will
start within two to three days and continue over several days. By
the seventh or tenth day, you will have younger and healthier
looking skin. Recommended for all skin types, this peel can be
repeated every 6-8 weeks for maximum results.
and his licensed
aesthetician will explain the Obagi System and Blue Peel in greater
detail at your consultation.
